Need a Halloween Costume, but you're a fashion girl? the blueprint's already there.

1) Miranda Presely

We know you’ve heard this one a thousand times, but an icon never dies and we can’t, in good conscience, leave out the Devil who Wears Prada. Miranda Presely is never going out of style for this holiday, and an easy way to channel her on Halloween night is to go for a fur coat (obviously), a pair of stiletto pumps, and a fitted business dress. With a side swept up-do, a thin waist belt, and a statement necklace that screams luxury, you're almost there. Now just purse your made-up lips, look your friends up and down with disdain, and say, “That’s all.” While the accessories will really seal the deal, you can get away with only stockings, heels, a fitted modest dress in plum or black, and a fur coat. Trust me, people will know exactly who you are if your strut doesn’t send them running for your coffee first.

2) Cruella

This is Halloween and to be a fashion icon is to be a powerhouse. Sometimes the title of villain coincides with a powerful woman and if that’s the price of having a sense of style and an even larger amount of confidence, then it’s one we’ll gladly pay. On that note, enter Cruella, arguably one of the most style-driven villains that will hopefully scare your trick-or-treaters into trying harder on their own costumes. We couldn’t make this easier if we tried. Go heavy on the bright red lipstick. Either use hair chalk, temporary dye, or a wig, but either way, from head-to-toe, everything you’re wearing is going to be black and white. You could go in so many different directions, white fur fur coat on black dresses or a pantsuit, dalmatian coat on an all black silhouette, or reverse it all. No matter what values you choose to put where, just make sure you’ve got some sparkly makeup, diamonds on hand, preferably a pet dog, and a shrill voice when you yell at your minions.

3) Cher

Okay, so Cher’s technically not a character, and is actually a real person with a real career, but the great thing about an icon is that their image is so widely known and perceived in different ways that Cher has become more than a person, she’s become a construct, especially one for fashion lovers willing to experiment. The woman wrote the book on making a public statement, with her voice, her body, and her designer connections. You can copy her classic Bob Mackie looks, her Vogue spread, or any of her trademarked headpieces. Think Moulin Rouge, 20s glamour, and ahead-of-your-time all at once. Do that, and you’ve got Cher. And if all you have instead of designer friends and a longer-than-life legacy is amazon, you can still find a flapper dress, a rave set, and deck your hair out in tinsel and diamond clips. The near-drag makeup and bedazzled tights and higher-than-high heeled boots you’ve got will carry the rest.

4) Twiggy

The triple threat. No one does style icon the way Twiggy does, probably because she was so ahead of her time and loved for it. Her unusually short-for-the-60s haircut, androgynous look, and bold contemporary fashion statements created a legacy that outlived her image on screen, in front of the camera, and on stage. Even younger people will probably recognize your extravagant intentions if you make sure to accentuate the beautiful alien-eyed aesthetic with a colorful crease makeup look, thick, uniquely shaped earrings, a statement up-do, and a solid bright colored dress or set. And yes, you NEED Go-Go boots.

5) Fine Nanny Fran

“Fine? I need gorgeous. I'm changing!” Sorry Fran. Fine is too simple a word. Try iconic, because there’s no better fashion icon that your 90’s audience will recognize on Halloween than Nanny Fran Fine. You could even make your own spin on her look, so long as you have a collection of wild, trendy prints and vibrantly colored staple pieces. Accessories are the name of the game. (Our belt and bag collection is probably a great place to start. *wink wink*) A few belt chains, some waist-cinching silhouettes, and a feminine chic accentuated by a loud boldness of color will put the Fran in your FINE. It’s the perfect combo of character dress up, fashion-forward, and a stand-out outfit for any spooky party. .

6) Elle Woods

If you’re more of the heroine protagonist type, we’ve got two more *cough pinker cough* options for you. First up: Elle woods. Say what you want about her exclusive color preference, but where most people are attending a lecture in sweats and pajamas, Elle’s got a fully thought out academic ensemble for a two hour law session. A preppy updo paired with glasses, stiletto boots, and a fur collar green trench has earned her a place on the list. For people to recognize your efforts, you do have to be, well, blonde. And likely wearing pink. If looking for more coverage than her iconic application sequin bikini, go for the courtroom outfit. Steal a chihuahua if you don’t already have one, get a Barbie pink purse, and even if it’s not a blazer dress, because those are harder to come by, a lapel collared jacket, shirt or fitted skirt to match will do just as well, so long as it's pink and you’ve added some sparkly jewelry. (and DO NOT forget your furry pen!)

7) Barbie

Speaking of Barbie, and WAIT don’t leave! It’s true this was last season’s costume of the year and is supposedly old news this Halloween, but Barbie is undeniably a fashion icon, and if you refuse to go the pink and blonde route, you can still take inspiration from her fashion prowess. If she can make multiple hair and outfit changes in one day, and over 30 in one movie, you can choose a different color or theme and be your own Barbie doll. Blue for example, if you’re going monochrome Blue Barbie for Halloween night, we expect you to just be rotating every blue piece in your closet on repeat during Halloweekend, trying new accessories, new hairstyles, and new vibes each costume change. THAT’S the magic of Barbie, not just pink clothes and yellow hair. And if you’re down to bring back the pink movement, well, just read the guidebook.

8) BRAT Summer

I mean. Let’s be real. 2024 was all about Brat Summer, and just because summer is over, doesn’t mean Bratz are retiring from your social media scrolls. This Halloween, you’ll likely see more than a few Sashas and Chloe’s walking around, but if you add a little neon green, and get two of your closest pop star-lookalike friends, you could take it a step further than most. Together, this summer’s biggest pop stars/fashion icons were the holy trinity of girl boss. Charli XCX’, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter released bangers like Guess, Taste, and Hot To Go, and dominated the music charts, branding summer of 2024 Brat Summer, which started with Charli’s latest album, Brat. A TikTok creator correlated the trip and their signature colors to the powerpuff girls, and if you don’t want to be a Brat doll, you can be sure the more iconic route is a small band of Powerpop girls that looks a little like what you see here. Iconic Trio costume if we’ve ever seen one.

9) Monster High Ghouls

Underrated. And the definition of fashion icons. Monster High was a popular enough but close to undiscovered phenomenon of fashion loving “monster theme dolls trying to get through high school in a freaky fabulous world. And they are the perfect group from which to orchestrate a group costume or a solo icon look. Endless color scheme combinations, play with prints, multi colored hair in different styles, and the accessories? Oh, we’re in heaven. Actually, Cleo’s choice of belts and chains looks strikingly similar to some we just released…

10) Morticia Adams

Nothing says Halloween like the Addams Family (cue the snaps). And who better to dress up as than the queen of all things spooky, Morticia Adams. A sleek, all black elegant look this holiday season is sure to steal the show, and really, why wouldn’t you want to emphasize that haunting silhouette this holiday season? If you struggle on Halloween, like most do, between wanting to look iconic and cool, but also terrifyingly frightening, Morticia should be on your costume list. Her unblinking stare, cool-toned smokey eye, and sharp-edged deeply scooped neckline are something out of our…nightmares? Dreams? Both? The scariest thing on Halloween is your costume not being envied. But with the right cloak, the right hair, and the right dress, the only thing you should worry about is what your Gomez is wearing.
